Adding Some Color to a Holiday Meal

When you hear the term ‘plant based-eating’ does it make you think you have to start eating that geranium in the window? While we may not think of the foods we eat as ‘plants’ that is exactly what many of them are. A plant-based diet includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, peas, lentils, herbs and spices.  These plants show cancer-fighting potential and by changing your diet to include more of these healthy foods, you can feel that you are doing your part to be an active member of your own cancer care team.

This recipe for Honey-Glazed Carrots adds additional cancer-fighting potential and flavourful zing with the addition of ground ginger, orange juice and zest. In addition for those whose taste buds register ‘bland’ as a result of cancer treatment, this flavorful recipe adds additional pizazz that muted taste buds may crave.

The sweetness of the honey and butter are the ideal flavour adjustment for those who experience bitter or metallic tastes. If your taste for bitter is amplified as a result of cancer treatment, then omit the orange zest, which is also a bitter flavor. Enjoy this recipe as part of your Christmas meal or anytime that you want a super flavorful vegetable with added cancer-fighting potential.
